The Cardinals lost their fifth straight loss Wednesday night to fall to 10-16 as they lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 4-0. They now trail the Brewers by 7 1/2 games. This is the farthest they have been out of first place since Aug. 8, 2001, when they were eight games back.
It's difficult to find a positive note when your team gets blanked but there was a bright spot to bring up. Anthony Reyes pitched his best game of the year! He struck out 8 batters through 6 innings and gave up just 3 hits. Trouble is he didn't get any help from the team.
Another bright spot in the game was Albert Pujols. He had 3 hits (even though the entire team managed only 5 hits total).Albert has not hit in 11 straight games and is batting .280.
WP Carlos Villanueva 2-0
LP Anthony Reyes 0-5
Milwaukee managed only 4 hits but they had 4 base on balls as well.
Brewers are now 18-9 with a 5 game lead on the Reds.
