Wainwright's elbow improving

LOS ANGELES -- Adam Wainwright reiterated on Wednesday that he battled elbow soreness for several starts this year, but Cardinals officials said the condition was never severe enough to consider shutting the right-hander down.

Following his start on Tuesday night, Wainwright said the game was his first since the season's opening week in which he did not feel some discomfort. He had been dealing with some tendinitis in his throwing elbow. On Wednesday, he further explained what he had been dealing with.

"It was pretty bad, but it wasn't bad enough to not pitch," he said. "It hurt to throw breaking balls and stuff. It hurt to get extended."
