Cardinals lose again 5-4

Is there no end in sight? On any given night it's the Cardinal bats that are silent. On other nights it's the pitching. Some nights its both! Rarely do the Cardinals put both of them together for a nice win these days. Last night it was pitching that caused the loss. Kip Wells pitched just 5 innings last night. He gave up 6 hits, 6 walks and 5 runs. The hit that cost him the game was a 3 run home run by pinch hitter Wilson Betemit. To make matters worse with that home run he raised his batting average to a mere .194 for the season.

Hitting and scoring runs was not a problem for St Louis last night. One would think 4 runs would be enough for a win, but not last night. The Redbirds pounded out 12 hits, including 3 by out fielder Juan Encarnacion.

WP Randy Wolf 5-3. Takashi Saito recorded his thirteenth save.
LP Kip Wells 1-8. ERA for the season is now 6.75.

The Cardinals managed to get some good pitching from the bulls pen but the game was already decided so it went for naught.
